The Duquesne Men Top Detroit

The Duquesne University Men’s Tennis team improved to 8-3 with a 5-2 win over Detroit on Friday night.

The Dukes came out firing, picking up a 8-4 victory at #2 doubles. After dropping a close match at #1, Rich Robbie and Ben Klaas clinched the doubles point in a hard fought 9-8(4) battle at #3; “I was impressed with the ability of our guys to remain focused and win the doubles point over a solid Detroit team,” said Coach Camillo.
Robbie and Klaas improved their record to 9-1 on the season.

The momentum carried over into singles as Alex Aleman was first to finish with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Pablo Nunez at #4. The sophomore from Cuyahoga Falls leads the team with 9 singles wins this spring.
Detroit bounced back through wins at the #3 and #6 positions, tying the match at 2-2.
However, Peter Carpenter was able to secure a straight sets victory at #2. Max Rubin ensured the Dukes came away with the win by defeating his opponent 7-6(3) 6-4. Rich Robbie solidified the win through a marathon 6-3 4-6 7-6(4)) at #1.

“It was great that everyone was able to contribute, especially since we lost a close one to them last year. Winning the doubles point was crucial, and our success can be attributed to the work we have been putting in with Coach Camillo,” said junior captain Pete Carpenter.

The Dukes are off until March 13th when they host Temple at 1:30.
