The Dukes had their second conference match this weekend as they faced the St. Bonaventure Men’s team of New York. The Bonnies are known for being a feisty group of guys “The team always comes out fighting” said freshman Peter Carpenter. The Dukes dropped the doubles point for just the third time this season losing at the #1 and #2 spot. The #3 Team of Ben Klaas and Richard Robbie picked up another win proving too solid for the Bonnies.
In singles action the dukes dropped three of four first sets on courts 1-4. Max Rubin added “It was weird playing on just 4 courts, as opposed to the usual 6. Being on the sidelines and watching the guys play is stressful.” The first match to finish was #3 singles. Freshman Corey Robinson was able to overcome senior Luis Guevara’s aggressive game style for a 6-4, 6-2 victory. The Dukes built confidence off of the win at three, allowing them to take four of the next five singles matches with wins across the board less the number two spot. Final score resulting in a 5-2 win in favor of the Dukes.
Duquesne will face Detroit away this friday at 6pm. Go Dukes!
